Age Concern Scotland campaigns against age discrimination and other inequalities older people encounter.
Age discrimination is alive and well. There are laws to protect people against race, sex, and disability discrimination, but at present nothing to stop people discriminating on the grounds of age. Some people find it harder to get jobs and training, and others feel that they do not get the health and social care they need because of their age. Things can be doubly difficult for people who are both old and either disabled or from a minority community.
Age Concern Scotland has campaigned for many years against age discrimination, and to improve services for older people from black and minority ethnic communities. We will continue to campaign until there is comprehensive legislation against age discrimination, and age discrimination is a thing of the past.
